Promises Kept - Drainage
One of my key promises was to make drainage a priority by improving the drainage infrastructure across the District, and we’ve made significant progress in keeping that commitment:Culvert Replacements
Over the past eight years, we have conducted a comprehensive inventory of all culverts throughout the District and established in-house crews trained to handle these large culvert replacement projects. By doing so, we have successfully replaced all critical culverts, ensuring that these essential components of our drainage system function effectively. Now, we are proactively working on replacing the remaining culverts before they fail, further strengthening our water management capacity and mitigating potential risks to the community.M1 Basin Impoundment Expansion
We negotiated and secured 640 acres donated by GL Homes, which are being held in escrow until we finalize the engineering plans and obtain funding for construction. We have been working diligently on the engineering design plan for the expansion of the M1 Basin Impoundment. This project will significantly increase our ability to store and manage water, providing crucial protection against flooding and enhancing the District’s resilience in the long term.Swale Upgrades
Throughout the District, we have been upgrading swales to improve water flow and increase drainage capacity. These upgrades help prevent water accumulation and protect properties from the risks of flooding, ensuring better water management during storms.Canal Reclamation and Repairs
We have completed several miles of major canal reclamations and canal bank repairs, restoring the strength and efficiency of our canal system. By improving water flow and reducing flood risks, these efforts safeguard homes, agricultural properties, and vital infrastructure across the District.
