Today I wrote an email to the county commissioners regarding this problem. See below.

I am writing to express my concerns and those of the residents of the Acreage. While I am elected to the Indian Trail Improvement District Board of Supervisors for my third term, I am not writing on behalf of the District but as the elected official with the history of advocating for the Acreage community since 2013. The ITID Board has been consistent throughout the years in providing input and taking a position on many of these concerns.

The Acreage community has been waiting over 30 years for the promised Seminole Pratt Whitney Road extension, a critical project intended to improve traffic flow and safety. Despite this longstanding commitment, it remains unfulfilled, leaving us with worsening conditions and unmet promises.

This extension should have been prioritized before initiating the construction on Northlake Blvd., which has left residents without viable alternative routes during construction. Despite progress such as right-of-way (ROW) acquisitions on the Mecca property and the turnover of the railroad crossing to Avenir CDD—an agreement that was not in the best interests of our area—the project remains deprioritized. The absence of this extension has directly contributed to the traffic nightmares we face today. I implore all of you to prioritize this road and build it today, not 20 years from now.

The construction on Northlake Blvd. has brought daily standstills, dangerous road closures, and tragic consequences. Residents of the Acreage, Westlake, Avenir, Bayhill, and IBIS (to name a few communities) endure gridlocked traffic that has caused fatalities, serious injuries, and reckless cut-through driving on ITID residential roads. This not only endangers our families but also deteriorates the quality of life in our community.

Regarding 60th Street, the County’s current plan with Minto proposes the developer building the road between Seminole Pratt and 140th Avenue. However, there are no plans to improve the eastern portion of 60th Street beyond 140th Avenue or to protect ITID residential roads from spillover traffic. Currently, SR7 is channeling traffic through our community via 60th Street, Royal Palm Beach Blvd., and Coconut Blvd.—a route that previous studies had already dismissed as a viable alternative for SR7. Despite this, the traffic persists and is set to worsen significantly once 60th Street is connected to 140th Avenue. Additionally, the County has met with developers and municipal stakeholders, but ITID residents and representatives have been excluded from these critical discussions. Without these considerations, the safety and quality of life for Acreage residents will continue to decline. I urge you to reject this plan until State Road 7 is finally connected to Northlake Blvd., and 60th Street (east of 140th Avenue) is properly designed to mitigate cut-through traffic on ITID residential roads.

Another serious concern is the alignment of Avenir’s entrance with 140th Avenue, yet another ITID residential road. This design risks funneling thousands of vehicles daily into our community. What measures are being taken to prevent this? I doubt any of you would support a road funneling such high traffic volumes through your own neighborhoods.

Despite collecting substantial tax revenue from this area, the County has failed to address these urgent issues. Development traffic studies repeatedly warned of these impacts, and residents have consistently voiced their concerns, yet meaningful action remains absent. Surrounding municipalities show little regard for the effects their developments have on our community. Who is advocating for the Acreage and ITID? Who will stand up for our safety and quality of life?

It is unacceptable to treat ITID residential roads as a band-aid for these traffic issues. The County must immediately prioritize sustainable solutions that protect our community. We deserve reasonable commute times, safe roads, and a preserved quality of life.

I am ready to meet and collaborate on actionable solutions. I urge you to stand with the Acreage community and Indian Trail in addressing these pressing concerns and prioritizing the safety and well-being of our residents. I look forward to hearing from you.

I am deeply grateful to everyone who supported me throughout this journey. Your belief in my vision and commitment to our community has been both humbling and inspiring, and I am honored to continue serving as your representative on the Indian Trail Improvement District Board. Together, we will keep working toward the goals that matter most to us all—protecting our community from large-scale development and preserving our rural, agricultural character and quality of life.

I would also like to recognize my colleague, Keith Jordano, for his dedication and contributions to our community. He has worked hard to make a difference, and I deeply appreciate his efforts and commitment.

Congratulations to Richard Vassalotti on a hard-fought win. I trust that differences and partisan politics will be set aside in service of our non-partisan Board, and I hope he will join us in working toward the shared goals of protecting and preserving our community.

Dear Neighbors,

As Election Day quickly approaches, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what has been a challenging yet inspiring time for our community. While much of my focus has been on issues facing the District, recent events have reminded me that the heart of our District is its people.

Preparing for Hurricane Milton and helping in the aftermath of the tornadoes has shown me, once again, the incredible resilience we share. Seeing neighbors come together—whether it’s helping each other clean up properties, providing food, water, and supplies, or supporting our linemen and workers—has filled my heart with pride and gratitude. Our community truly shines brightest in times of adversity.

If you or anyone you know needs assistance as we continue to recover, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here to help in any way I can.

Litigation Expenses

Please note that ITID was sued by Minto, a private developer and the Seminole Improvement District (SID – which Minto controls) in 2019 for access to our local streets. We defended the District and counter-sued Minto and SID. While the amounts are not insignificant in defending the District easements and infrastructure, I assert that to not do so, would not only be irresponsible but would also cost the District residents a lot more. The costs would be in “improvements” to accommodate traffic that our local streets were never meant for and maintenance to benefit people who do not pay a dime for the District benefits. The costs will exceed the legal costs to date annually, in perpetuity. The District has prevailed in our legal arguments and have a partial Summary Judgement, I previously posted that judgement. The full summary judgement hearing is April 1, 2024. All the while, have no doubt that the developer and the current District 6 County Commissioner, continue to try to undermine our efforts.

Below is the cost the District has expended since Minto sued us, which includes attorneys’ fees, engineering studies, and expert fees:

Total Cost: $2,331,926

Minto v Indian Trail

Well it has been a minute since I have written and even more since Minto sued Indian Trail. However, I wanted to share the good news about the case… the judge has issued a partial summary judgment in the District’s favor.

You can read it here. I won’t be answering questions at this time as this is still an active case however, the residents of Indian Trail deserve to know this update.
